Vortex Hydra is a provider of advanced technology for the production of concrete roofing tiles. Established in 1967, the company has developed into a global leader in manufacturing equipment for coloured concrete roof tiles. Since the very start, the Italian family enterprise has had a strong international orientation.

“Our export share is a high 80 to 90%,” says Elena Merli, responsible for marketing. “Our strong export business is helping us through difficult times, just as currently in the domestic market.” Vortex Hydra supplies customers all over the world and has branch operations in the UK, China and Brazil.
UK provides sales services and produces spare parts, while China offers the planned manufacture of selected engineering components enabling costs to be controlled in a very competitive world. “Brazil was only opened in 2010 and is a pure sales office to meet the current days needs for good quality building products in South America,” explains Ms. Merli.
Other distinguishing characteristics of Vortex Hydra, besides its pronounced international positioning, are the fact that all equipment is made to order to perfectly meet the customer’s individual requirements and the company’s strong diversification. “In addition to tile manufacturing machinery, we produce hydraulic systems, such as valves, for water control applications,” states Ms. Merli.

Last but not least, Vortex Hydra sets itself apart through its highly qualified, loyal employees and its high attention to continuous training. Vortex Hydra employs 74 people and turns over between 10 and 15 million EUR.
The company offers a broad selection of fully automated manufacturing equipment for concrete roof tiles using high-pressure extrusion technology. The same technology is included in the company’s machinery for the production of wall and floor claddings.
The equipment range covers every requirement and comprises everything from single, modular units to complete manufacturing plants for capacities from 1,000 to 50,000 tiles per shift.

“Our wide range provides us with a major competitive advantage as it enables us to offer the customer a complete solution that covers the entire value chain, from the mixing of the raw materials to tile production through to packaging and palletising,” says Ms. Merli.
The product assortment is rounded off by stationary and mobile manufacturing equipment for concrete blocks and pavers, automation solutions for wet casting applications and continuous concrete mixing systems.
Of course, Vortex Hydra also provides the full range of after-sales services, including spare parts, maintenance, repairs, revamps and modernisations, operator training and advice on efficiency improvements, raw material savings and quality control.
