RITZ Instrument Transformers GmbH
We provide real core competence
The company’s history dates back to the year 1945. Between 1989 and 1999 RITZ acquired WTW in Wirges, MWB in Bamberg and TUR in Dresden, which had emerged from the inventor of instrument transformers Koch & Sterzel from Dresden, thus forming a strong group of companies. Today, RITZ, headquartered in Hamburg, operates eight locations worldwide.
“Instrument transformers are our core competence, and in addition, we are very successfully positioned with the new young business segments of SIS busbar systems and cast resin insulated power tarnsformers,” stresses Marketing Manager Dipl.-Ing. Roland Walger. Instrument transformers are transformers which convert high currents or voltages into measurable and standardised currents or voltages, which are proportional and in-phase to the primary signal. They are intended to supply electrical measuring instruments, meters, relays or other electrical devices.
“At our site, we focus on the production of current transformers for indoor applications and cast resin insulated busbar systems,” stresses Mr. Walger. “Strategically our subsidiaries are concentrated on two product groups being able to address market fluctuations of the individual segment by efficient human resources management.”
Currently, about 1,000 employees are working at the sites in Germany, Austria and Hungary as well at the US- and China-based plants, of which both produce for the local markets. RITZ has built up a high level of knowledge and expertise, which proves to be a real competitive edge.
In the case of high currents and powers, RITZ’ solid busbar insulation systems turn out to be an alternative to parallel connected cables and metal–enclosed busbar connections
“We operate on a mere project basis,” says Mr. Walger. “There are many parameters for measuring the accuracy of instrument transformers, and for each customer we individually recalculate the required parameters. Despite the fact that all transformers look similar from the outside, their interior is always a customised solution.” The individual calculation of parameters is RITZ’s strength.
“Transformers are built to last forever and have a life cycle of up to 50 years,” adds Mr. Walger. An instrument transformer is not an innovative product in itself ,but efficiency-wise it conceals a highly innovative potential. “We hold a patent on an explosionproof instrument transformer, which is used on locomotives,” states Mr. Walger.
“Among our customers are prominent names in switchgear production like Siemens and ABB. From a technical point of view, we are market leader, active at a very high level.” In order to prevent any failures of instrument transformers, each product leaving the company’s premises obtains an inspection certificate, which documents its flawless operation. Product quality has always top priority for RITZ.
